The Picts are a group of peoples who inhabited the north of Scotland in the Middle Ages. They were assimilated by the ancestors of modern Scots and English. It is believed that the Picts are an exonym, that is, the Picts themselves did not call themselves that. The Picts had a written language, but not many sources have survived to this day. Because of this, most of the names of the Picts are lost. Mostly the names of the kings and their relatives have been preserved. Such as Morbet son of Oerip or Drust son of Fudrus. It is known from the annals that the Picts had personal names and patronymics (patronyms), but the Picts did not have surnames.
