The Uighurs are a small ethnic group, most of whose representatives live in northern China. The Uyghurs are mostly Muslims. Accordingly, Uyghur names are mostly of Persian or Arabic origin. Uyghurs are banned from using some Islamic names because they are considered extremist by the Chinese authorities. Relations between the Uighurs and the Chinese have not always been smooth. So, the black list of the Chinese authorities includes such names as Jihad, Mecca, etc.
