Romanians are a large East Slavic people, mainly living in Romania and the United States. The Romanians have a rich, ancient history, which is reflected in the names and culture of this people. Romanian names bear shades of four cultures at once: Romance, Ottoman, Slavic and Gypsy (Romania is home to the largest community of Gypsies in Europe). Among the Romanian names there are names that have Slavic, Romance and even Turkic origin. Romanian surnames were created by adding endings to the names: “escu”, “esco”, “in”.
