The Sinhalese are the indigenous people of Sri Lanka. This is a small nation with its own language and culture, the number of which does not exceed 12 million people around the world. Sinhalese names are unique in their own way and are divided into two groups. The first is the traditional Sinhalese names, which are built according to the formula: personal name and special name Ge. The name Ge is a nickname, profession name or title of a person, to which the ending "ge" is added.

The second group is new Sinhalese names, they are already being built according to a more common formula in the world: a personal name and a surname. Gradually, traditional Sinhalese names are becoming a thing of the past, but their carriers can still be found in Sri Lanka.
